Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian National Police and the New Zealand Police signed a cooperation agreement in transnational crime prevention and eradication and also capacity building.
The signing event between the two law enforcement institutions was held in Indonesian National Police Headquarter Building, South Jakarta, on Monday (6/12/2021), held both offline and online.
"Today, we attended the cooperation signing meeting in transnational crime prevention and eradication and capacity building", Sigit said in his opening statement.
This cooperation, Sigit said, moved from the strategic neighbourhood development that is changing fast and unpredictable so that it could affect the security stability. Moreover, the crime modus keeps growing, and new dimensional crimes are rising as the technology is being developed.
Therefore, according to the former Chief of Banten Regional Police, the crime is not only acknowledged inter-country border. Therefore, Sigit viewed that both countries' cooperation is needed in crime prevention and eradication.
"This cooperation aims to grow Police ability of both countries, mainly in handling terrorism, drugs trafficking, illegal smuggling, economic crimes, money laundering, cybercrime, and other transnational crimes", the former Chief of Criminal Investigation Agency of Indonesian National Police said.
By signing this cooperation agreement, Sigit hoped that Indonesian and New Zealand Police would be more optimal in handling all forms of crimes, considering that this could affect the economic activities.
"We are all indeed hoped that relationship between Indonesian and New Zealand Police are closer. The effective collaboration would increase security stability of both countries and support community welfare improvement", Sigit said.
Cooperation in the security sector between Indonesian and New Zealand Police have been formed for a long time, since 2011, such as eight Bilateral Working Groups, 24 capacity building programme in the form of field study, master scholarship, and short courses.
Then, 19 crime information exchanges and five law enforcement cooperation such as regional military operation, deportation, and joint investigation.
Meanwhile, Chief of New Zealand Police Commissioner Mr Andrew Coster virtually appreciated Indonesian National Police related to the focus to handle transnational crime.
"I am happy we could sign this cooperation agreement. For one decade we had a great cooperation. By the renewed MoU, we could focus the cooperation on things and crimes that usually happens lately", Andrew said.
Andrew said that one of the transnational crimes becoming attention are such as drugs trafficking, money laundering, violent extremism, and human trafficking/smuggling.
"Even though the Covid-19 pandemic struck Indonesia, we have to stay positive so that we can do this cooperation. And I thank the ongoing cooperation, and I am waiting for a direct meeting with the Mr Chief of National Police. Once again, thank you for the cooperation", Andrew concluded.
