The Head of Public Relations (Kabid Humas) of the Maluku Police (Polda Maluku), Commissioner Muhamad Roem Ohoirat explained that the deployment of hundreds of Polri and TNI officers to Haruku Island was to anticipate a larger clash in the area.
“One company was already deployed this morning. There are also Brimob troops from Masohi who have also been there to strengthen the forces," said Kabid Humas, Tuesday (15/2/2022).
Kabid Humas added that so far more than two companies of joint police and military personnel have been deployed to Haruku Island
"We already deployed two platoons yesterday. Today two platoons from Brimob went there and Dansat Brimob also went there. Friends from the TNI are also there," he said.
Apart from securing the border between the two villages, the officers who were deployed also secured the waters in the two villages.
"Meanwhile at sea, we have placed our Water Cops patrols there," he said.
Kabid Humas urged the residents who were entangled in the conflict to restrain themselves and not be provoked by various provocation issues.
“Once again, we urge residents to remain calm and not to be easily provoked. We also ask the press to help calm the situation," he concluded.
