How Manchester Police in Dealing With Sexual Violation

inp.polri.go.id – Indonesia. Sexual violence crime is like the tip of the iceberg, which is believed that much of the case is still not reported yet. This is because many of the victims thought that this case is a shame to them. This sexual violation happened everywhere, including in the office, educational institutions, and even in the midst of community life.

Facing a phenomenon like this, the Police might have to take a note from the Manchester police in England when dealing with a sexual predator from Indonesia.

To uncover sexual crimes with victims ranging around tens or even hundreds of people, detectives in England move in silence.

The case with the perpetrator, Reynhard Sinaga, a doctoral student from Indonesia, was almost without news before he officially went to court.

In contrast to similar cases in Indonesia, these cases often cause a stir born from the mass media and social media which often make their own narratives, not from official sources such as the police.

The excitement of media exposure is often not profitable in resolving cases of sexual predators. The uproar that arises could make some victims undiscovered because of the glorification of the media that made them afraid to reveal the truth they have experienced.

Sometimes, for systematic crimes such as cases of sexual violence, Police investigations need special techniques or steps just like what Manchester police did.

This is what we have not seen in Indonesia, the media immediately blows up the case, while in the next process there is a lack of adequate follow-up.

If the steps of Manchester Police in solving sexual violation applied in Indonesia, then the anticipation of all negative things that arise from the commotion such as on social media and in mainstream media can be anticipated and the disclosure of the case will be completed.
