Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police successfully arrested 48 foreigners for call or teleconference offences.
Director of Special Criminal Investigation of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Auliansyah Lubis, stated that Police had arrested 48 foreigners from China and Vietnam for their involvement in fraud and blackmail cases on Friday (12/11/21).
Director of Special Criminal Investigation of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police stated that foreigners consist of 44 men and four women. They conducted their actions using dating apps, targeting foreigners from China or Taiwan. After the perpetrator meets the victims, they then communicate intensely.
"Perpetrators invited victims to do sexual activities through messaging apps such as WeChat and Line such as opening clothes, showing private parts, et cetera", Police Grand Commissioner Auliansyah Lubis said in Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police Headquarter on Saturday (13/11/21).
The former Chief of Semarang City Departmental Police said that the perpetrators' modus operandi is by recording the victim's sexual activities to blackmail the victims. If the victim does not pay the perpetrator, they then threaten to spread the nude recordings of the victims.
"The victims are mainly in Taiwan and reported local Police there. The Taiwanese Police representatives in Indonesia, Colonel Lieutenant Tom, forwarded the information to the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police", the 1994 graduate of the Armed Forces Academy.
On that information, investigators of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police then checked and profiled Chinese foreigners and arrested the perpetrators in three different places.
"They are arrested in three locations such as Cengkeh street, Mangga Besar, and Mediterania Complex of West Jakarta. All arrest locations of the perpetrators are shophouses where the perpetrators lived", the Middle Officer of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police explained.
Police Grand Commissioner Auliansyah Lubis said that during the raid, Police seized evidence such as laptops, hundreds of cellphones, computers, and Indonesian Rupiah and Chinese Yen banknotes.
"In this case, the perpetrators are subjected to Article 30, in relation to Article 48 and/or Article 28 paragraph 1 in relation to Article 45 paragraph 1 and/or Article 35 in relation to Article 51 paragraph 1 of Law No. 11 of 2019 about the Revision on Law No. 11 of 2008 about Electronic Information and Transaction", Director of Special Criminal Investigation of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police concluded.
