Grand Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said that police officers have the right to reprimand motorists who smoke, following Article 106 of Law Number 22 of 2008 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation.
Greater Jakarta Metro. Regional Police said Article 106 of Law No. 22 of 2008 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation reads: "everyone who drives a motorized vehicle on the road is obliged to drive his vehicle fairly and with full concentration".
Then, the officer can take action against the driver when he loses concentration with the threat of Article 283 of Law Number 22 of 2009, which states that anyone who drives a motorized vehicle on the road unnaturally and carries out other activities or is influenced by a situation that results in impaired concentration while driving.
Greater Jakarta Metro. Regional Police's Directorate of Traffic Security also stated officers could conduct investigations on drivers while smoking which causes traffic accidents to injuries or death.
