Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police Held Press Conference Regarding Exposure of the Smuggling of 17 Kg of Amphetamine from an International Network

Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta.Directorate of Drugs Investigation of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police exposed the drug smuggling from the international network using the modus of inserting drugs in a statue before being flown to Indonesia.

Chief of PR and Press Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Yusri Yunus, said that three suspects, initialled RR, DO, and FS from Nigeria, South Africa, and Mozambique, were arrested at a different time. The three suspects were arrested from two reports to the Police. The amphetamine seized from the arrest weighed 17 kilograms.

"RR was the first to be arrested on July 15, 2021. We seized 1 kilogram of amphetamine", Chief of PR and Press Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police said.

Chief of PR and Press Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police said that the Directorate of Drugs Investigation of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police coordinates with Customs of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Cengkareng, Banten, related to amphetamine delivery by air.

The remaining suspects, DO and FS, were arrested on the second arrest with the evidence of 16 kilograms of amphetamine from Southern Africa (Mozambique). "The 16 kilograms of amphetamine were delivered by air, hidden in a statue", Chief of PR and Press Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police said.

Chief of PR and Press Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police explained that, in the beginning, the investigators encountered some challenges to track the amphetamines owner due to a fake name and address.

"However, through undercover operations, the investigators finally made a breakthrough and found the amphetamine delivery address in Pondok Melati, Jatiwarna, Bekasi city", Chief of PR and Press Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police said.

The investigators finally arrested two suspects. Another suspect was put into the wanted list: a man initialled C, who instructs DO and FS to retrieve the amphetamine packages.

The recently seized 17 kg of amphetamine, if being misused, could harm 85,000 people, assume if one person consumes 0.2 grams of it.

The suspects were subjected to Article 114 and Article 112 in relation to Article 132 of the Indonesian Criminal Code and Indonesian Law No. 35 of 2009 about Narcotics.
