Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police managed to apprehend a syndicate of Automated Teller Machines (ATM) thugs that often operate in Jakarta and its surroundings. This syndicate has acted more than 30 times.

Head of Public Relations Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Police Grand Commissioner Yusri Yunus, explained that this ATM jamming syndicate had been operating for about a year. After conducting a lengthy investigation, the police arrested all the perpetrators of this syndicate in different places.

"Perpetrators of a gang who have worked for more than one year. We managed to secure six people, first ND, EC, R, GJ, SHW and E," explained the Head of Public Relations Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police during a press conference at the Regional Police Headquarters of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Jakarta, Tuesday (10/8/2021).

"Of the six suspects, three of them were arrested, including the leader, a recidivist, brother EC, who jammed an ATM. He had been involved in drug problems, and the other two were thefts with weights," explained the Head of Public Relations Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

Head of Public Relations Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police said this syndicate acted by looking for ATM machines that were quiet and lacked supervision. Then, in groups, they worked blocking the ATM.

"The playing area is around Tangerang, South Tangerang and even South Jakarta, depending on whether he sees an ATM that is easy to carry out their activities. They play in the gas stations area, quite a minimarket," explained the Head of Public Relations Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

In their action, they tried to block the victim's ATM card and memorize the victim's ATM pin. After that, this syndicate drained the money in the victims' accounts until the total loss of the victims reached hundreds of millions.

"So the losses are quite large. There are twenty-three million rupiahs, fifty-six million rupiahs, one hundred twenty-eight million rupiahs. So they share the profits for extravagance and the possibility to buy narcotics," explained the Head of Public Relations Division of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

For their blindness, the suspects were subject to Article 363 of the Criminal Code. The suspects face up to five years in prison.
