Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police arrested 30 units of illegal cars racing on Asia Afrika Street, Gelora Bung Karno area, South Jakarta, Friday (06/08/2021) at 01.00 WIB.
Dozens of riders are primarily teenagers. They wanted to do an unofficial speed race in front of the Senayan City shopping centre, South Jakarta. They were taking advantage of a quiet road due to Micro Restriction (PPKM) Level 4.
"We brought the relevant perpetrators and their vehicles to the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police for inspection. Administrative checks and ticketing were carried out," explained the Patrol and Guardian of Directorate of Traffic of the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Police Commissioner Attendant Harnas.
The basis of the punishment given refers to Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation Law (UU LLAJ), to be precise in articles 275-287.
The perpetrators of illegal racing can be subject to several sanctions:
1. Article 275 shall be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of 1 month or a maximum fine of Rp. 250,000 (two hundred and fifty thousand rupiahs).
2. Article 283 shall be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of 3 months or a maximum fine of Rp. 750,000 (seven hundred and fifty thousand rupiahs).
3. Article 287 paragraph 5, which is sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of 2 months or a maximum fine of Rp. 500,000 (five hundred thousand rupiahs).
"Meanwhile, bogus vehicles or without documents will be confiscated," explained the Patrol and Guardian of Directorate of Traffic of the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Police Commissioner Attendant Harnas.
Wild racing when PPKM Level 4 was implemented was not the only time this had happened. At the end of July 2021, the police arrested 70 motorcyclists racing illegally in Sudirman, Central Jakarta.
