PAPUA - Commander of the Armed Forces, Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, and Chief of Indonesian National Police, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, greeted, motivated, and filled the spirit of all Armed Forces-Police personnel tasked to maintain security and order in Papua on Friday (22/10/2021).
Sigit affirmed that all Armed Forces-Police personnel who have worked hard and deployed all of their abilities to maintain security in Papua is the best form of a soldier for the nation, country, and people of Indonesia.
"I express my appreciation for hard works conducted by Armed Forces-Police who tirelessly and full of spirit provide the best service to the nation, country, and society", Sigit said.
One of the hard works by the Armed Forces-Police is the commencement of 20th National Sports Week (PON XX) in Papua, which was smooth and secure and also safe from health-wise despite being in the middle of Covid-19.
"Thank God, everything went safely and smoothly and, related to Covid-19 cases, everything is under control, and there has been no surging case", Sigit said.
The former Chief of Criminal Investigation Agency of Indonesian National Police also saw how the hard work of the Armed Forces-Police personnel that keep in synergy with the Local Health Agency and volunteers related to the vaccination acceleration efforts.
"During PON, even though attended by spectators, only 136 people tested positive for Covid-19, and most of them are already recovered. We saw in the last one week, compared to last week, there has been a decrease in confirmed positive cases. This means all hard work in controlling Covid-19 transmission has been paid off and runs well", Sigit said.
Furthermore, regarding the Covid-19 control, the former Chief of Banten Regional Police also appreciated Armed Forces-Police personnel who secured PON commencement from the disturbance of Armed Criminal Group (KKB).
According to Sigit, the success of national event commencement in Papua becomes a reflection of how Indonesia is able to hold domestic or international events.
"This shows the world's eyes that Indonesia, during the Covid-19 pandemic, is able to hold the large-scale event with spectators and run smoothly and safely. Those things could happen thanks to the hard work of dear colleagues in Armed Forces-Police, communities, and related elements on how to materialise a well-ran PON", Sigit said.
Besides, Sigit also said that PON commencement shows Indonesia able to conduct Covid-19 transmission control measures.
For now, according to Sigit, Indonesia is on the number one list of the most successful in handling Covid-19 in Southeast Asia. This achievement must be maintained.
"Related to those things, there would be more national or international events indeed. PON would be a role model that we have to maintain, and we will also welcome the next international", Sigit explained.
In the security aspect in Papua, Sigit reminded Armed Forces-Police personnel to stay alert despite the safe PON commencement.
Furthermore, Sigit emphasises that synergy and solidity of Armed Forces-Police and other stakeholders must be strengthened and maintained. According to him, the success this far can only be materialised due to the strategic factor.
"Thanks to the synergy and solidity of Armed Forces-Police and the full support from all Papuan people. We successfully maintain security and order in Papua", Sigit said.
Not only that, but Sigit also emphasises that solidity and synergy of Armed Forces-Police must be maintained to keep the sovereignty of the country and Papua.
"Papua can move forward. Papua can develop with all available resources. The key is stability on security", Sigit concluded.
