Facing the Rainy Season, West Sulawesi Regional Police Holds Call for Consolidation of Disaster Management

Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Mamuju. At the end of 2021, rainfall in the West Sulawesi region is getting higher, resulting in several flooding, causing landslides.

Last September, Kalukku District, Mamuju Regency, was hit by flash floods; heavy rains caused the Kalukku River to overflow, which resulted in hundreds of houses in 2 villages, namely Sondoang Village and Beruberu Village, being flooded, which reached a height of 1 meter.

While the District. Majene is the area worst hit by landslides. The National Armed Forces and National Police, and the local government worked for hand in hand in clearing the soil material covering the road at several points along the Trans-Sulawesi route.

Anticipating further disasters, the West Sulawesi Regional Police held a Consolidation Ceremony at the West Sulawesi Regional Police Headquarters, which was attended by National Armed Forces personnel, Mobile Brigade, Department of Transportation, Municipal Police, National Search and Rescue Agency, Social Service, Red Cross, Health Office and West Sulawesi Provincial Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management, Friday (10/22/21).

In his mandate, Operational Chief Bureau of West Sulawesi Regional Police, Pool. Grand Commissioner Muhammad Helmi said that the consolidation ceremony aimed to determine the readiness of the Indonesian National Police and the Government in the event of a disaster by preparing resources, facilities and infrastructure as an anticipatory measure.

West Sulawesi Regional Police Operational Chief Bureau explained that the extreme weather recently had caused natural disasters such as strong winds, floods, landslides, fallen trees, and overflowing water. Therefore, our vigilance is needed for early anticipation.

"Let us make an effort through hard work while asking Allah SWT to give the best guidance and protect us all from disasters, and the Covid-19 pandemic will end soon," said Operational Chief Bureau of West Sulawesi Regional Police.
