Expert Communication Backs Up Police Firm Decision

inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The decision of the Indonesian National Police in ensuring that it will take firm action if they find any suspicion of quarantine violations deserves thumbs up.

Communication expert from Pelita Harapan University, Emrus Sihombing, confirmed the statement conveyed by the Head of the Public Relations Division of the Police, Inspector General Dr. Dedi Prasetyo, M.Hum., M.Sc., that this step is part of humanitarian responsibility. This step ensures both Indonesian citizens and or foreigners obey the rules related to the handling of Covid-19.

"This include the rules regarding quarantine," he said, Sunday morning (6/2).

This step is important because the Covid-19 virus is a global threat, including in Indonesia, which has claimed many deaths and has caused economic downturn in each country.

Therefore, the decisive action that will be taken by the Police is a non-verbal symbol which means that the police are very concerned about the safety of human life.

"I think it's not an exaggeration. Our police have always been at the forefront of our efforts to fight Covid-19 under the leadership of President Joko Widodo," continued Emrus.

For this reason, the Police implores all parties must strictly obey all the rules to deal with the threat of the Covid-19 virus.

On the other hand, Dedi Prasetyo's statement is an anticipatory, proactive message for our survival against Covid-19, which until now no one knows when it will end.

"On the other hand, the statement from the police functioned as legal education in the form of legal compliance for all Indonesians," continued Emrus.

The message conveyed by Dedi Prasetyo indicated that the Police Public Relations Division had become the "head of communication" in the public sphere, not the "communication tail" or "firefighter" which often only functions to counter "oblique" issues.

"Therefore, the Police Public Relations Division has carried out positive public communication in handling Covid-19 in the country. As a communication expert, I appreciate the Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police for carrying out public communications," he concluded.
