Eradicating Extortions and Thuggery, Riau Islands Regional Police Arrested Dozens of Thugs

Directorate of General Criminal Investigation Agency of Riau Islands Regional Police arrested dozens of extortions and thuggery suspects as the follow up of Chief of National Police's instruction that stated the perpetrators of crimes that disturb the public must be arrested.

The statement was addressed by Chief of PR and Press Division of Riau Islands Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Harry Goldenhardt, accompanied by the Director of General Criminal Investigation Agency of Riau Islands Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Jefri Ronald Parulian Siagian, on Saturday (12/06/2021).

Extortions and thuggery must be punished. If there are still some practices, the public is asked to report them to the police.

"People should not be afraid to report it to the law enforcement officials if they found extortions or thuggery that consciously asked or harassed for money. We will arrest them", the Chief of PR and Press Division said.

Besides that, the Director of the General Criminal Investigation Agency of Riau Islands Regional Police will take measures towards actions conducted by perpetrators.

"The perpetrator who asked for parking service and thugs have been arrested with the cooperation from Criminal Investigation Unit of Barelang City Departmental Police", Director of General Criminal Investigation Agency said.

The public report from the 110 line service of Barelang City Departmental Police reported illegal parking fee extortion, which exceeds the maximum hours of 22.00.

After conducting an on-the-spot investigation, ten violators are arrested. The violators are initialled SG, FI, H, HS, TH, T, FA, WS, SM, and B.

They later brought to Barelang City Departmental Police headquarter for further investigations.

"Evidence seized is one banknote of Rp10,000, six banknotes of Rp5,000, 32 banknotes of Rp2,000, 33 banknotes of Rp1,000, and 40 coins of Rp500", Director of General Criminal Investigation Agency said.

The perpetrators are subjected to Article 7 and 60, related to Article 12 paragraph 1 of Batam City Regional Regulations No. 3 of 2018 about Parking Management and Retributions, and threatened by a maximum of three months in prison or pay fines as much as Rp50,000.
