Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Surabaya. East Java Regional Police successfully discovered two international drug cartel networks. In its discovery, Police managed to seize 7.9 kgs of amphetamine and thousands of Ecstacy pills from said networks.
Chief of PR and Press of East Java Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Gatot Repli Handoko, explained that the drug case discovery is the cooperation between Police and Customs of Tanjung Perak Surabaya. In this case, Police discovered drug delivery from Malaysia and Africa.
In Malaysia's case, the Police arrested Rany Aswad (39), resident of North Maluku, and Idoko Chikwado Kenneth (34), a foreigner from Nigeria.
"It began from customs officer suspicion about a package from abroad, which suspected to contain the drug. They then called the East Java Regional Police and cooperating in discovering this case", the Chief of PR and Press of East Java Regional Police on Monday (27/9).
The package then being sent to the written address at the West Gate of City Park Apartment, Kamal Raya street, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, with Police escort. Two suspects then received the package.
"Both suspects (RA and ICK) received the package, and then, after being arrested, they were asked to open the package, which contains eight packs of amphetamine weighed 3,984 grams and 1,780 Ecstacy pills", Chief of PR and Press of East Java Regional Police explained.
Chief of PR and Press of East Java Regional Police stated that, based on suspects' information, the package was sent by someone in Malaysia, initialled as K, using sea delivery. To disguise the drugs, the amphetamine and Ecstacy pills were put into food cans and mixed with articles of clothing.
"Those amphetamines and Ecstacy pills were planned to be trafficked by both suspects across Indonesia", Chief of PR and Press of East Java Regional Police.
Meanwhile, the second drug network discovered by Police is known to be from South Africa. From this case, the Police arrested four suspects, initialled DS, RZ, ST, and FK.
From those four suspects, Police seized 4.067 grams of amphetamine known to be originated from South Africa.
"The amphetamine was smuggled using a modified suitcase and covered by food, so it looks like an ordinary food package", Chief of PR and Press of East Java Regional Police said.
Just like the first case, the package was sent by the delivery service. The recipients then made a deal with the courier to receive the package at a determined road.
"They met in a rest area of Jakarta-Tangerang toll road. After the package was successfully moved to the suspect's car, officers then conducted arrest", the Chief of PR and Press of East Java Regional Police explained.
Chief of PR and Press of East Java Regional Police added that both cases are now still being developed because Police believes that there are still many undiscovered networks to cut off drug trafficking in Indonesia. In total, Police seized more than 7.9 kgs of drugs.
For their actions, the suspects are subjected to Article 114 paragraph 2 or Article 112 paragraph 2 and/or Article 132 paragraph 1 of Law No. 35 of 2009 about Narcotics with the threat of a five year minimum in prison
