East Java Regional Police Dismantle Sales of Counterfeit Oxygen Cylinders in Surabaya

Tribratanews.polri.id - Surabaya. East Java Regional Police's Director of Crime and Investigation managed to discover the case of counterfeiting oxygen cylinders. In this case, the police have named NW alias NG (52) as a suspect. Suspect NW alias NG (52) modified a small fire extinguisher tube filled with oxygen, to be sold to the public at a price of IDR 4 million.


The fire extinguisher tube is modified and the tube is changed to look like an oxygen cylinder that is sold to the public at a price of IDR 4 million, explained the East Java Regional Police Chief, Pol. Inspector General Nico Afinta at the East Java Police Headquarter, Surabaya, Wednesday (08/18/21).


Pol. Inspector General Nico Afinta explained that the disclosure of the case began with the report of a victim with the initials WD who bought oxygen cylinders from the suspect on July 27, 2021. WD is a consumer who needs oxygen cylinders for his parents who are exposed to Covid-19. WD then went to the crime scene belonging to the suspect NW, whose address is in the Simorejo area, Surabaya.


"After buying it at a price of IDR 4 million, the person sitting next to each other got an oxygen cylinder. However, after using it, the victim felt a strange feeling in him, that (the oxygen cylinder) was not as usual," said Two Star General.


The victim then reports to the authorities, which will then be followed up by conducting an investigation by a team from the East Java Regional Police. The team from the Director of Crime and Investigation Unit of East Java Regional Police conducted a search and found 800 canisters, 106 of which were ready for distribution.


Containing each one cubic meter, one and a half cubic meters, five cubic meters and six cubic meters, where this tube is the result of a modified tube that looks like an oxygen cylinder, said the Indonesian Military Academy graduate in 1992.


The East Java Regional Police Chief revealed that the suspect NW changed the color of his paint from red to white. Then the suspect took out the contents of the fire extinguisher, installed a regulator, which was then filled with oxygen. Nico emphasized that this was very dangerous in the midst of the many Covid-19 patients who needed oxygen.


"In the meantime, there has been one victim, so the data has been sold from 50 tubes, the size is one cubic meter," added the Pol. Inspector General Nico Afinta.

For his actions, the suspect is threatened with punishment as stipulated in Article 106 and/or Article 113 of the Law Number 7 of 2014 concerning Trade, and/or Article 196 and/or Article 197 of Law Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health, and/or Article 62 JO Article 8 Paragraph (1) Letter (J) Law number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, with a threat of 15 years in prison.
