Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Surabaya. Tens of fishermen fishing in Madura strait waters were startled when the Police personnel came to them.
At the start, the fishermen were fishing in the middle of waves in the Madura Strait. From a tactical boat, three Police officers from the Directorate of Water and Air Police Corps of East Java Regional Police approached them and invited them for a casual talk.
At the end of the conversation, Chief Director of Water and Air Police Corps of East Java Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Mustofa; Chief of Water Patrol Subdirectorate, Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Herlambang; and Chief of Patrol and Guard Section, Police Commissioner Bintara, gave cloth mask and 5 kilograms of rice to the fishermen.
Follow by the thank you message, the fishermen, mainly from Madura and Gresik, smiled at the officers.
"We did the effort to go straight to the fishing fishermen to distribute the government aid during the PPKM (Community Activity Restrictions Enforcement) implementation", Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Mustofa said on Friday (30/7/2021).
Around 1,000 rice sacks are distributed by the Water and Air Police Corps of East Java Regional Police to the fisherman.
Besides distributing rice, officers also educate the importance of Health Protocols and safety that has to be prioritised when at sea.
"We also educate them about Health Protocols and at-sea safety measures", Chief of Subdirectorate added.
Police officers also encourage the fishermen to get vaccinated to form herd immunity against Covid-19.
One of the fishermen, Mustain (48), resident of Socah, Bangkalan, said that he has been at sea since 18.00 local time on the previous day. However, he only managed to catch six crabs during fishing. To the officers, he thanked them because they could bring home some stock for her wife and two kids.
"I am really thankful, moreover now it is not the crab season, so I only got six", he said.
The social event would be continued by the Directorate of Water and Air Police Corps of East Java Regional Police every day and targeting fishermen fishing in the East Java waters.
