Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Mataram. Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Herman Herry, appreciated the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic in West Nusa Tenggara. In a meeting with the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Chief, Pol. Inspector-General Muhammad Iqbal who was accompanied by several Main Officials (PJU) within the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police at the Lumbung Field Tribune Bhara Daks, Herman revealed that his party heard that the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic in West Nusa Tenggara received appreciation from many parties.
So, Herman said, his party in carrying out the supervisory function wanted to prove whether or not the appreciation was given based on facts on the ground.
“During this specific visit, we saw data, heard explanations, and saw in the field that the Regional Police Chief has indeed taken strategic steps, in carrying out functions that exceed their duties. The West Nusa Tenggara Police Chief has managed to put such pressure on this pandemic, so we give our appreciation," he explained.
However, continued Herman Henry, who led the specific visiting group, which was represented by three members including Father Muhammad Syafi'i, Nasir Djamil, and Sari Yuliati, the West Nusa Tenggara Police were also faced with big challenges, namely the international World Superbike Champion and MotoGP.
In addition, the West Nusa Tenggara Police are also dealing with local issues such as land acquisition, where there are parties who feel that they cannot be resolved.
“This is not an easy challenge for the Regional Police Chief. Therefore, in addition to the appreciation we give, we also support the Kapolda and provide the necessary inputs, so that the Regional Police Chief can solve all these challenges in a persuasive way, in a humane way but full of firmness," he said.
Previously, the West Nusa Tenggara Police Chief explained the various steps and strategies taken in handling the Covid-19 pandemic, which in its implementation always synergizes with the National Armed Forces and the Regional Government (Pemda).
"Since the beginning of the (covid-19 pandemic, ed) one and a half years ago it was 26,574. Praise to the Lord, 24,901 recovered and 853 died. Since yesterday we have been able to identify almost a month of confirmed cases (Covid-19, ed) which tend to decrease somewhat, recover increases, and die slowly," he added.
The Regional Police Chief explained that the number of exposures (Covid-19 infected) in West Nusa Tenggara was still below the national exposure rate of 518.5 per 100 thousand population. Meanwhile, the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) is still below the national CFR of 3.2. "If we see that below the national level, West Nusa Tenggara is still very much able to control Covid in general," he said.
Furthermore, the Regional Police Chief also explained the various strategies carried out in handling the Covid-19 pandemic in West Nusa Tenggara, both through the competition-based Healthy Village program, the Healthy Campaign during simultaneous regional elections, implementation and tightening of health protocols Community Activity Restriction Enforcement, and vaccination programs by forming a team of vaccinators until to the lowest level of government (hamlet and neighbourhood).
On the occasion, the former Head of the Police Public Relations Division also explained the availability of the Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR), including the level of hospital occupancy which continued to decline.
“Praise to the Lord, the hospital occupancy rate has decreased. Many hospitals are already empty, no one is hospitalised, because many are asymptomatic, we are doing treatment in a centralised isolation area," he concluded.
