Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jayapura. Chief of Papua Regional Police, Police Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, guarantees the commencement of the 20th National Sports Week (PON XX) Papua in 2021 on October 2-15 is safe from the Armed Criminal Group attack in Pegunungan Bintang.
Police Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri explained that Pegunungan Bintang is far from the PON venues in four regencies and city of Jayapura city, Jayapura regency, Mimika regency, and Merauke regency.
"Pegunungan Bintang is far from the PON's cluster in Jayapura city, Jayapura regency, Mimika regency, and Merauke regency, about around 200 kilometres", the two-star general said in Jayapura on Tuesday (14/09/21).
Chief of Papua Regional Police explained that the Pegunungan Bintang region is located in the middle mountains of Papua, which is closer to southern Papua.
Besides that, road infrastructure in Papua is mostly not connected with the land transport mode.
Moreover, the only access to Pegunungan Bintang is by plane. The closest land travel to Pegunungan Bintang is through the Keerom regency. However, the road is still not connected yet.
"I ensure PON venues are safe", the 1990 Alumni of Armed Forces Academy said.
Police Inspector Mathius D Fakhiri stated that maximum security had been prepared during the PON commencement. Besides, there would be sixteen companies of extra personnel deployment from Mobile Brigade Unit across the country and expected to start to arrive on September 16, 2021, in Jayapura.
