Chief of Jambi Regional Police Ordered Illegal Gold Mining in Bungo to be Stopped

Tribratanews.polri.go.id. – Jambi. Chief of Jambi Regional Police, Police Inspector General A. Rachmad Wibowo, ordered that illegal gold mining activities or commonly known as PETI (unlicensed gold mining) in Bungo Regency area to be stopped immediately. He said this during the meeting with representatives from Tanjung Menanti Hamlet (Village, red) residents of, Bathin II Babeko District, Bungo Regency.

To Datuk Rio (Village Head) of Tanjung Menanti, Chief of Jambi Regional Police advised the illegal gold mining activities that has hundreds of points along the Batang Tebo River must immediately be stopped.

“Illegal gold mining has many disadvantages compared to temporary gains. Such as the occurrence of abrasion and silting of rivers that have resulted in flooding,” the Chief of Jambi Regional explained.

In addition, the Chief of Jambi Regional Police continued, the mercury used to separate gold from other materials has caused contamination of river water and fish.

"In the long term, it will also affect the quality of life of the people along the river," the Chief of Jambi Regional Police said.

Furthermore, the Chief of Jambi Regional Police also said he had spoken with regional head to find alternative solutions for community livelihoods other than unliscened gold mining. After the socialization period, the Chief of Jambi Regional Police and related stakeholders will begin to control and take action.

"Therefore, it is suggested to the community to start dismantling the unliscened gold mining equipment themselves so that there will be no greater losses, and parts of the equipment can still be utilized," the Chief of Jambi Regional Police concluded.

During his working visit to Bungo Regency, the he also briefly inspected the location of unliscened gold mining along the Batang Tebo River by helicopter. Results of the review have been followed up with coordination meeting between Bungo Regency stakeholders, as well as patrols and appeals issued by the Bungo Redort Police which are backed up by the Head of Career Building (Binkar) of Human Resources Bureau of Jambi Regional Police, and Commander of Battalion A Pioneer of Jambi Regional Police Mobile Brigade.
