Ceremony Holds Troops in the Context of Disaster Management in Banyuwangi

Several joint personnel from various elements took part in a preparedness meeting for hydrometeorological disaster management in the Blambangan Green Open Space (RTH) Banyuwangi, Monday (10/25/21). The joint forces consisted of the ranks of the Banyuwangi Regency Government, National Armed Forces and National Police, National Search and Rescue Agency, Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management, and Indonesian Red Cross.

The Meeting was attended by all ranks of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum of Banyuwangi. Military Regional Command 0825 Banyuwangi Lieutenant Colonel (inf) Yuli Eko Purwanto, Naval Base Commander of Banyuwangi - Lieutenant Colonel (F) Ansori, Banyuwangi Police Chief, Pol. Grand Commissioner Attendant Nasrun Pasaribu, followed by several personnel in full uniform.

In the preparedness meeting, all personnel anticipate hydrometeorological disasters. Disasters are caused by meteorological parameters such as rainfall, humidity, temperature, and wind. They start from floods, hurricanes, landslides, abrasion to tidal waves.

"Banyuwangi Regency is an area that is prone to disasters. The potential for Banyuwangi disasters is very diverse, ranging from volcanic disasters, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, and floods," said Banyuwangi Police Chief, Pol. Grand Commissioner attendant Nasrun Pasaribu.

According to the Banyuwangi Resort Departemental Police Chief, the vulnerability increases along with the entry of the rainy season in the Banyuwangi area, which has the potential to cause hydrometeorological disasters as landslides and flooding at several points in the region.

"With this potential, we must be prepared to anticipate all possibilities that will occur, one of which is a hydrometeorological disaster. Therefore, this apple is a form of preparedness for all elements in Banyuwangi," he said.

The success of this disaster management certainly depends on a disaster management system with supporting facilities and infrastructure that are qualified. As well as good coordination between stakeholders and communities in disaster-prone areas.

Pol. Grand Commissioner Attendant Nasrun Pasaribu explained that currently, his party had identified several disaster-prone points in Banyuwangi Regency. Such as mountainous areas prone to volcanic disasters and landslides, earthquakes, and tsunami disasters and tidal waters on the sea coast.

"The disaster-prone area in Banyuwangi is complex, ranging from Mount Merapi, earthquakes, the sea, and the potential for forest fires that occurred last year," he explained.
