Central Java Regional Police Successfully Reveals ATM Skimming Case that Loss IDR 202 Million in Customers

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Semarang. The Central Java Regional Police succeeded in revealing the identity of a foreigner from Turkey who was suspected of being the mastermind of a theft syndicate with the ATM card "skimming" mode, which cost the victims hundreds of millions of rupiah.

In his statement, Central Java Regional Police Chief, Pol. Inspector-General Ahmad Luthfi, who was represented by the Head of Central Java Regional Police's PR, Pol. Grand Commissioner M. Iqbal Alqudusy said that the success of the Central Java Regional Police Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation in discovering the ATM skimming case that broke into the accounts of 35 BRI customers. This disclosure succeeded in securing the two perpetrators with the initials AS (38) and AIS (46), residents of Malang City, East Java. They have a role as the owner of an account that collects stolen money through skimming.

"However, behind their actions, it turned out that there was a foreigner who helped with the initials of DK (46) from Turkey. He has been detained at the Krobokan Prison, Bali, a recidivist for several cases of skimming ATMs in several places. The perpetrator was once arrested when he was about to install a skimming device in the form of Deep Skimming at a Bank Mandiri ATM in Bali around July 2020," added the Head of Central Java Regional Police's PR.

"The disclosure of this crime began when BRI Bank received reports from 35 customers who had reduced money in their accounts. After investigating and tracing CCTV footage at the ATM in question, it was discovered that a skimming device was installed by two people whose identities were not known. From the proceeds of their crimes, these customers have lost as much as IDR 202 million. As a result of their actions, the two perpetrators are now being charged with Law Number 3 of 2011 concerning Fund Transfers," said the Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Regional Police, Friday (10/22/2021).
