Tribratanews.polri.go.id – East Flores. A fisherman in East Flores Regency (Flotim), with the initials BDS (41), was successfully secured by the Directorate of Water and Air Police (Ditpolairud) of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police. BDS was arrested for allegedly catching turtles on Oa Beach.
Head of Public Relations of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, Pol. Grand Commissioner Rishian Krisna Budhiaswanto said that the arrest started when personnel from the Head of Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate's Intelligence and Air Section of East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police received information from the public regarding the arrest of turtles around Oa Beach.
"Receiving this information, Directorate of Water and Air Police personnel went directly to the scene and examined a fisherman suspected of catching turtles. When questioned, the perpetrator admitted his actions," said the Head of PR.
The Head of PR also revealed that the fisherman carried out turtle catching activities on Oa Beach using trawls or nets with the results of catching two turtles and hiding them in piles of trawls or nets.
"The goal is to sell the turtles for personal gain," explained Head of PR.
The alleged perpetrators and evidence consisting of two turtles and a net have been secured by personnel from the Directorate of Water and Air Police of East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police to Marines of the East Flores Water and Air Police Unit.
Furthermore, the Ditpolairud coordinated with the BBKSDA of the Province of NTT, the Maumere Office Branch, to identify the type of turtle caught.
"For the actions of the perpetrators, they are threatened with Article 40 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 21 paragraph (2) letter b of Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems," closed the Head of PR.
