Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jayapura. Papua Regional Police would conduct Odd-Even trials for vehicles passing certain roads ahead of the 20th National Sports Week (PON XX) that would be commenced in four regions.
Besides the trial ahead of PON XX, the odd-even implementation also restrict public mobility during Level 4 and 3 of PPKM (Community Activity Restriction Enforcement).
"We are indeed conducting odd-even implementation trials in Jayapura city and regency", Chief of Papua Regional Police, Police Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, in Jayapura.
Chief of Regional Police stated that the main aim of this trial for vehicles passing certain streets is to anticipate during PON XX due to limited roads available.
Directorate of Traffic Police Corps of Papua Regional Police, aided by other units, will start the odd-even trial on Monday, August 16, on several roads such as Ahmad Yani, Kelapa Dua Entrop, and Abepura-Sentani road in Jayapura city and Sentani-Balai Trans Road of Jayapura regency. The trials would commence on 08.00-10.00, 15.00-17.00, and 18.00-20.00 local time.
Chief of Regional Police admitted that the trial would commence until August 31. He hoped people would obey them, considering that several roads would experience traffic jams during the PON XX event.
"The trial is conducted so that when traffic jams happened, the traffic flow could be managed until it returns to normal", the Chief of Regional Police hoped.
PON XX is scheduled to commence on October 2 to 15 in four regencies and cities in Papua, such as Jayapura, Merauke, and Timika city and regency. The implementation of the odd-even policy is also to suppress Covid-19 transmission in areas packed with traffic flow.
