inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Commander of the Armed Forces, Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, Chief of Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, attended the Merdeka Vaccination Volunteers Appreciation Night in Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police on Tuesday (17/8/2021).
In his opening statement, Sigit stated that this challenging situation only could be passed through if all walks of life have a sense of unity to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We can pass through it if we want to be united and bonded by the strength. The strength of nationhood, unity, and love all people and Indonesian nation", Sigit said in the opening statement.
The former Chief of Banten Regional Police explained that Indonesia recorded 56,000 daily Covid-19 cases a while ago, which made the situation extremely challenging. Therefore, according to Sigit, the central government issued policies to handle and control the Coronavirus transmission rate called the "second wave".
"Therefore, the central government issued some enforcement to face the situation such as Micro-scaled PPKM (Community Activity Restrictions Enforcement) and Emergency PPKM to hamper, control, and reduce mobility rate as the key to reduce Covid-19 transmission rate", Sigit said.
The central government, according to Sigit, also strengthening activities such as building public isolation centres, considering the high bed occupancy rate, so the government prepares new isolation facilities to help alleviate the capacity of Kemayoran Athlete Village Emergency Hospital.
"The new isolation centres to assist the Athletes Village such as Nagrak flats of Pasar Rumput and other isolation centres we build in other regions", Sigit said.
Besides, the government is also strengthening tracing, testing, and treatment (3T) efforts. Sigit mentioned that the government had to decide which people must be put into isolation centres and which ones to go to the hospital.
Not only that, Sigit said that the central government, through the Minister of Health, also campaigns and accelerates mass vaccination programmes because, according to Sigit, Armed Forces-Police are on the move to support the government programme related to vaccination acceleration.
"The Commander (of the Armed Forces) and we move to accelerate the mass vaccination events", Sigit said.
According to Sigit, the Indonesian government's target of one million vaccines injected per day had been achieved in July. And now, Indonesian President Joko Widodo set the target to deliver two million vaccine doses injected per day.
"Mr President gave us a target to inoculate two million people per day by the end of the month, so we have to formulate measures on how this target could be achieved. Many kinds of strategies on vaccination have been conducted such as Vaccination Outlets, Mass Vaccination by Armed Forces-Police, Mobile Vaccination for remote regions, and, a while ago, when I initiate the idea on how to accelerate the vaccination, Chief of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police initiated the idea of Merdeka vaccination", Sigit explained.
At the moment, Sigit felt grateful because the target of Merdeka vaccination have been achieved: 100% of Jakartans are vaccinated with the first dose. Moreover, the target has been achieved since August 8.
According to Sigit, the target is achieved thanks to the organising and hard work of the volunteers, regional government, and public elements who have helped to achieve the government's target on vaccination.
"The vaccination could be conducted on the Citizens Association level. There are 900 Citizens Association, helped by more than 3,000 volunteers so the target could be achieved", Sigit said.
However, Sigit emphasised that the event has to be the stepping stone to achieve the government's target on herd immunity of 70% Indonesians.
"Regarding this target, I instruct all regions to replicate and adopt things that the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police have done, so the vaccination of central government, helped by Armed Forces and Police to support vaccination acceleration in province or regency could run smoothly, and the people could feel the acceleration effort", Sigit said.
Even though all Jakartans have been vaccinated on the first dose, Sigit challenges Chief of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police, Police Inspector General Fadil Imran, to finish the second dose vaccination.
"However, I challenge him by the end of August or beginning of September all second doses have been delivered. I instruct all regions to do the same. We shoulder-to-shoulder and cooperate together. The Ministry of Health, Armed Forces, and Police support the activity at the province or regency level, so the government's target to form herd immunity of 70% Indonesians could be achieved", Sigit said.
At the end of his opening statement, Sigit encouraged all participants to give the highest respect and appreciation to the volunteers, vaccinators, health workers, Armed Forces and Police personnel at the forefront of Covid-19 handling, and those who have lost their lives during the duty.
"Before ending this opening statement, let me ask the audience to stand up to lead the salute towards all volunteers, vaccinators, health workers, and Armed Forces and Police personnel at the forefront of Covid-19 pandemic handling, and also to those who have lost their lives during the duty", Sigit said.
"In this opportunity, Mr Commander, Mr Minister of Health, all stakeholders, and I would like to give the highest appreciation and respect to the dedications of our best personnel, health workers, and volunteers. Everyone. Salute. Present arms! Eyes front. Open arms! Thank you", Sigit concluded.
