Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Aceh. Head of Public Affairs of Aceh Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Winardy said Aceh Regional Police ordered all Sector and Resort Police to target and eradicate various thuggery practices in Aceh.
One of the thuggery acts that become the police’s focus is illegal levies (extortion). Because, according to the Head of Public Affairs of Aceh Regional Police, extortion is an activity that is mostly carried out in various places such as markets, tourist attractions, terminals, and number of other public areas.
Therefore, the entire police force in Aceh is focused on suppressing thuggery activities. This, he continued, was carried out by the Aceh Regional Police to follow up on the Telegram Letter from the Chief of Indonesian National Police, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo regarding suppressing extortion and the practice of thuggery at ports throughout Indonesia.
As previously reported, the Telegram letter was issued by referring to the order of President Joko Widodo who asked Chief of Indonesia National Police to eradicate extortion practice and thugs, which were complained by the drivers at the port. Head of Public Affairs of Indonesia National Police ensured all ranks would continue to carry out patrols to follow up on Chief of Indonesia National Police’s instruction. So far, Police Grand Commissioner Winardy said his team continues to do the mapping.
"So, all Sector and Resort Police will move to target thuggery activities in their respective areas. Directorate of General Crimes of Aceh Regional Police has order Crime Unit of Resort and Sector Police to carry out the activity [to eradicate extortion practice and thuggery], as has been done by previous team. There are also several areas that are being investigated, " the Head of Public Affairs of Aceh Regional Police explained.
The thuggery often found by personnel in the field are extortion. In markets, terminals, tourist attractions, and others. Therefore the personnel continue to carry out patrols. If at certain places such as tourist sites or terminal, there is a a fee need to be paid but it is aplicable with existing qanun [Aceh regional regulation], the police will not question it
"But, the illegal one, we can't accept it. We are monitoring this throughout Aceh. If we know it's illegal, we will get rid of it," the Head of Public Affairs of Aceh Regional Police concluded
