On the second day of the 2022 Lancang Kuning Zebra Operation, Tuesday (10/4), Riau Police Chief, Inspector General Muhammad Iqbal took to the streets to greet the drivers. The Police Chief was accompanied by the Head of Public Relations of the Riau Police, Commissioner Sunarto and the ranks of the Traffic Directorate of the Riau Police. They greeted the people who passed through the Jenderal Sudirman street area, precisely in front of the Gurindam 1 Traffic Post.
"I deliberately went down to monitor the traffic flow situation during rush hour, between 05:30 WIB to 08:00 WIB. I think this is the real situation and condition, where these hours are the rush hour. In fact, these hours are prone to traffic jams and accidents. So, to anticipate this, we have prepared a team to be deployed to the field. The Traffic Unit have been on standby at the location since dawn," said the Police Chief.
Inspector General of Police, Iqbal, explained that his party had ordered all ranks to take to the streets. The goal is to greet the community, as well as to show that the police are ready to protect and serve the community, especially during rush hour, which is full of traffic and community activities.
“At this rush hour, we have to make sure there are no security disturbances. The police are ready to help. Just like what we did to a mother and her child this morning. The bike that they used suddenly had a flat tire, thus I ordered the Head of Traffic unit to handle that issue, and we take the child with a patrol car to the school. That is a proof of our service to the community among other things," he said.
On this occasion, Inspector General Muhammad Iqbal asked the traffic police to also distribute free helmets during the Zebra Operation, and educate the road users regarding the traffic law. The approach taken to educate them also must be in polite, educative, and persuasive ways.
