Bomb Disposal Unit of Gegana Detachment (Detasemen Gegana), Mobile Brigade Corps of Central Java Regional Police destroyed 32,868 firecrackers, consisted of 29,781 grains of cengis, 3,087 leo firecrackers, and 2.5 kg of firecracker ingredients at Maos Sub-District Shootung Field. The destruction was carried out by burning after unraveling it from the sleeve to prevent fire splash.
The discovery of the evidence was the result of Crime and Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) Cilacap Regional Police during the last Ramadan. Of the 64,893 firecrackers, 32,000 cengis firecrackers and 25 leo firecracker were destroyed six days before the Eid.
The Chief of Cilacap Regional Police Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Leganek Mawardi mentioned that the firecracker destroyed was the result of pekat (penyakit masyarakat) operation [community crime operation] at all districts of Cilacap. The highest number was in Nusawungu, Kroya, Gandrungmangu and Cilcacap city district area.
“This [firecracker] has become tradition passed down from generation to generation, but the health standard both for users and makers is less concerned. Many fatalities, both taken someone’s life and destroying property as well as cause discomfort,” as said by Chief of Cilacap Resort Police.
He mentioned the firecrackers exploced in Dusun Gebangan RT 05/07 Sidaurip Village, Gandrungmangu District Friday (04/30) was amounted 5,5 Kg. The incident had caused two houses destroyed and heavily damaged, and five others were moderately damaged. The total loss was estimated at IDR 150 million.
Fortunately, during the incident, the two houses belonged to Bani Dohan (29) and Tasimin (50) were empty, so no fatalities.
“The incident should become a learning for the community to obey safety and and order, especially before Eid, by not celebrating with firecrackers,” as mentioned by the Chief of Cilacap Resort Police.
