inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Director of Narcotics Crime Investigation (Dirtipidnarkoba) of The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) Brigadier General Krisno H Siregar said that 1,196 tons of methamphetamine were seized by the West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) in Pangandaran Regency, West Java. The illicit goods were suspected to have come from a Middle Eastern drug syndicate network.

"It may be possible that our development in this will involve citizens from other countries. So far, what we know is that these drugs came from a Middle Eastern syndicate," explained Dirtipidnarkoba Bareskrim Polri at the National Police Intelligence Education Center, Bandung Regency, West Java, Thursday (24/3/22).

The reason why the authorities concluded that these drugs came from a Middle Eastern drug network is that they assumed this drug case in Pangandaran has the same source as the methamphetamine smuggling in Aceh which was previously disclosed by Bareskrim Polri.

"Of course, we will continue to develop this case. From our analysis of the evidence, we believe that Afghanistan controls the network from the Middle East," explained Brigadier General Krisno H Siregar.

In the disclosure of the methamphetamine smuggling case in Pangandaran, there was also one suspect who was an Afghan citizen with the initials M (20).

The suspect is one of the five people named as suspects. The other four suspects are Indonesian citizens with the initials SA (33), HM (41), HH (39), and AH (38).

Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the suspect, who is an Afghan citizen, had a role in guarding the shipment of methamphetamine. "M is a foreigner from Afghanistan, his role is to guard and ensure the methamphetamine reaches the transaction point," said Listyo.

The suspects were charged with Article 112 in conjunction with Article 113 Paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 114 Paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 115 Paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph 1 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. And the suspects face a maximum sentence of the death penalty, life imprisonment, or 20 years in prison.
