Indonesian and Malaysian Police Strengthen Their Cooperation in Bilateral Consultation Meetings

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - The International Relations Division (Div Hubinter) of the National Police and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) optimize their cooperation by holding Bilateral Consultation Meetings as a form of active dialogue between the two countries, and combating transnational crime and capacity building.

"In addition to conducting cooperation bilaterally, the National Police is also acts as the cornerstone of cooperation in ASEAN, where the National Police Chief is the Head of the Indonesian AMMTC and the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit is the Chair of the Indonesian SOMTC," said Head Division of International Relations, Inspector General Krishna Murti, to journalists, Jakarta, Thursday (12/15).

Inspector General Krishna Murti explained that the development of transnational crime is increasingly diverse, for this reason, serious attention is needed from all parties. Thus, Polri as the organizer and chairman, both AMMTC and ASEAN SOMTC 2023 will make deliverables.

"Some of the things that are of concern to these deliverables are efforts to accelerate the handling of transnational crimes through Police-to-Police (P-to-P) cooperation, as well as simplification in the handling mechanisms," said Inspector General Krishna Murti.

He also emphasized that they will also strengthening P-to-P cooperation, and it is hoped that if there are any wanted person from Indonesia, their access would be denied. The same thing will also be done by the Indonesian side later.

"The use of MLA/extradition can be used as a last option. On the other hand, police also hopes that there will be an increase in police cooperation in border areas where police plans to have a Border Transnational Crime Liasion Office in all Indonesian border areas including in all Malaysian border areas, so that they can coordinate directly and solve problems at the border quickly and precisely without having to always ask for instructions from the head office," explained the Two Star General.

According to him, the stronger cooperation between Polri and PDRM will encourage the strengthening of the police and law enforcement officers in the ASEAN region.
