North Sumatra Police and Criminal Investigation Agency Pursuit the Company Behind the Illegal Migrant Workers

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - The North Sumatra Regional Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police are pursuing the companies that responsile for the human trafficking of illegal Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to Sihanoukville City, Cambodia, last Friday (12/8).

This was conveyed by the North Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Ridwan Zulkarnain Panca Putra Simanjuntak, after attending the inauguration of the North Sumatra Paskibara at Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, on Monday (15/08/2022).

"We are pursuing the provider company in Jakarta along with the Criminal Investigation Agency unit," said the North Sumatra Police Chief.

The Two-Star General said 212 illegal PMIs are currently housed in one of the government-owned buildings. The North Sumatra Police is still conducting an investigation. "Don't let our citizens work in inappropriate places which will affect the security of our country," concluded the North Sumatra Police Chief.

Previously, the head of the North Sumatran Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), Siti Rolijah, said 215 illegal PMIs were suspected of being employed at an online gambling company.

The hundreds of illegal PMIs who were arrested were mostly aged around 20 to 30 years. They came from various provinces, including Jakarta, Jambi, Lampung, North Sumatra, Bali, East Kalimantan, Banten, West Kalimantan, Banten, West Java, East Java, South Sumatra, Aceh, West Sumatra and West Nusa Tenggara.
