Head of Public Relations (Kabid Humas) of the Riau Police (Polda Riau), Commissioner Sunarto said his party is committed in handling illegal mining cases in Riau.
Commissioner Sunarto stated that throughout 2021, Polda Riau had handled 29 cases of illegal mining with 42 suspects. A total of 28 cases have been completed and are being processed at the Prosecutor's Office, while the other one is still under investigation.
Alluding to the alleged criminal act of mineral and coal mining in the form of mining activities of stockpiled soil using an exploration IUP in Tanah Putih District, Rokan Hilir, Kabid Humas Polda Riau confirmed that the report was being investigated by his institution.
Kabid Humas Polda Riau explained that on January 11, 2022, the Directorate of Special Crimes Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of Polda Riau were invited to a coordination meeting by the Mining Inspector of ESDM RI Riau Province as the supervisor of the IUP permits for the two companies and discussed the mining activities of quarry C carried by PT BTP and PT BBM.
"Based on the results of the meeting, in front of the Riau Mining Inspector Coordinator, the two companies made a written statement stating that they had stopped mining the backfill that was purchased by PT RDP for the wellpad needs of PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan in the Rokan Hilir area," explained the Riau Police Intermediate Officer.
