INP Carry out Security Preparations for the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (Polri) prepared 2,627 personnel to secure the holding of the 42nd ASEAN Summit from 9 to 11 May 2023. The ASEAN Summit took place in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Head of Police Public Relations Division Inspector General Sandi Nugroho said the thousands of INP personnel deployed were a combination of the National Police Headquarters, the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (NTT), and the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (NTB).

"The plan is to deploy 2,627 personnel from the National Police Headquarters with 947 personnel, 1,660 personnel from the NTT Regional Police, and 20 personnel from the NTB Regional Police," said Sandi in a written statement, Friday, April 28, 2023.

Sandi said the thousands of personnel would be deployed in various places, starting from the airport, with the approval of the delegates or heads of state who were present, to organize the venue.

Before the main event from May 9 to 11, Sandi said there will be a side event that will be held from May 7 to 9. For side events later it will be the full responsibility of the INP.

"INP provided personnel assistance in rings 1, 2, and 3. INP is fully responsible for side events," he said.

Several things have been strengthened, namely the facilities in Labuan Bajo. For example, CCTV to strengthen control from the Command Center, from the airport to the event venue, and convenience.

"Regarding camera body warm, we can fulfill static and mobile CCTV," he said.

Later, said Sandi, the CCTV will be equipped with face recognition technology to detect lists of people who commit crimes.

In this safeguard, INP will coordinate with stakeholders and other parties. This is to ascertain whether there are obstacles that require assistance.

In terms of security and public order (kamtibmas) in NTT, Sandi said there was a decrease in the trend of crime. Several things are of concern, namely the increase in the number of traffic accidents from 2021 to 2022.

"The potential for disaster in NTT is the vulnerability of earthquakes and abrasion. Then the hydrome trilogy and also the heat level in NTT which is quite high," he said.

With all these preparations, Sandi stated that INP was ready to protect the security of the delegates and heads of state holding the ASEAN Summit.

"The Indonesian National Police is ready to maintain the security and comfort of delegates and heads of state in holding the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, NTT," he said.
