Natuna Authorities Declare Emergency Response After Catastrophic Landslide

Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Natuna. The Natuna Regency Government has declared a state of emergency response following the devastating landslide that occurred in Serasan Island, Natuna, Riau Islands. The natural disaster was preceded by four consecutive days of heavy rainfall.

“The Natuna Regent has declared the state of emergency response for seven days starting from March 6th, 2023,” said Police Superintendent Nanang Budi Santosa, the Chief of Natuna Sub-Regional Police, on Tuesday (7/3/23).

As of this morning, there have been some updates on the situation. Four individuals in critical condition have been transferred to Pontianak via the Bukit Raya and Ranai routes, while one person remains seriously injured, and three are receiving outpatient care.

“47 people are reported missing,” the chief added.

The disaster has forced a total of 1216 people to become refugees who are currently seeking shelter at various locations, including the border checkpoint, community health center, Pelimpak and Alfurqon Mosque, and SMA 1 Serasan.
