Banten Search and Rescue Evacuated Eight Ship Crews After the Ship Caught on Fire

Tribratanews.polri.go.id -   The Search and Rescue Agency of Banten has evacuated crew members (ABK) from the fire that burned their fishing boat in Anyer Waters, Serang Regency, on Monday (26/09/2022).

"We immediately moved quickly to evacuate the crew after receiving the report from Fajar (VTS Merak) regarding a fire on a fishing boat in Anyer Waters," said Head of Banten Search and Rescue Agency, Adil Triyanto, in Serang, quoted by Antara.

KM Namira caught fire in Anyer Waters at coordinates 06° 02' 30" S-105° 53' 140" on Monday around 17:15 WIB.

KM Namira departed from the Mambruk hotel at 14:00 WIB to go to the Sangiang Island for a sea trial. After doing the sea trial at 16:00 WIB, KM Namira then headed back to Anyer.

However, on the way back, there was an explosion in the engine room. The explosion set the ship on fire. "We managed to safely evacuate eight crew members of KM Namira at 19:00 WIB," said Adil.

According to him, after the crew members were evacuated safely, the victim was then taken to the Anyer Health Center. The evacuation of the victims also closes the Search and Rescue operation. The officers then returned to their respective units.

During the evacuation process, the Search and Rescue Agency of Banten was assisted by the Navy, Banten Water Police, BMKG Serang, Serang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency, Anyer Health Center, Anyer Indonesian Fishermen Association, and fishermen around. "We are very grateful to all relevant agencies, including fishermen who also helped evacuate the crews from the burning ship," he explained.
