Tribratanews.polri.go.id - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) encouraged the G20 leaders to pay attention to the fertilizer issue. Jokowi said the fertilizer problem could bring 2023 into a bleach year. He asked the G20 leaders not to underestimate the fertilizer issue. Moreover, there are already 48 developing countries experiencing food insecurity at a serious level.
"Don't underestimate the fertilizer issue. If we don't immediate steps to ensure sufficient supply of fertilizer at affordable prices, then 2023 could be a much more miserable year," he said.
Jokowi said that currently the world is experiencing extraordinary challenges due to the ongoing crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic to the effects of war. Fertilizer scarcity will also impact the food sector. Food prices will skyrocket and trigger a lack of food availability.
"Apart from that, we also see that the world order and international law are also being tested," said President Jokowi.
Jokowi hopes that the G20 Summit can produce something tangible to help the global economic recovery. On the first day of the meeting, around 37 leaders of countries and organizations attended the meeting. Countries attending included US President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to Brazilian Foreign Minister Alberto Franca.
Then, also present were IMF Managing Director Kristalina Geogieva, ILO Director General Gilbert F. Houngbo, ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa and President of the Islamic Development Bank Muhammad Slaiman Al Jasser.
