The 6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Damaged Dozens of Building in North Tapanuli

Tribratanews.polri.go.id   - The 6.0 magnitude earthquake that hit North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province, caused serious damage to dozens of buildings and infrastructure in the area, on Saturday (10/1) at 02:28 WIB yesterday.

Head of the North Tapanuli Police Public Relations Subdivision, Walpon Barimbing, said that from their initial investigation, 44 houses were badly damaged. Of those numbers, nine were from Tarutung District, 15 in Parmonangan District, 19 units in Siborong Borong District, and one in Sipahutar District.

Then, there are ten school buildings were damaged, including 5 Elementary Schools in Parmonangan District, one High School building in Tarutung District, and four Elementary Schools in Siborongborong District.

Not only that, police also noted that 13 church units were damaged, including one in Tarutung District, one in Purba Tua District, six in Parmonangan District, and five in Siborongborong District.

"None of the bridges were seriously damaged. But in Siatas Barita District, public roads were badly damaged for about 300 meters. Then the earthquake also caused the road leading to the Cross of Love in Siatas Barita District to collapse," said Head of the North Tapanuli Police Public Relations Division.

Then, the tectonic earthquake caused 20 dams in Siborongborong District to be damaged. Not only that, the Tarutung Hospital building was damaged, forcing the hospital officials to take the patient outside and treated them in tents that had been built by officers.

"Officers are still continuing to collect data related to the damage. Currently, officers from the Army and the police are directly involved in cleaning the debris. For the injured victims, from our current data that we had gathered, there are 16 people who were hit by building materials," explained the Head of Public Relations of the North Tapanuli Police.

Tarutung area, North Tapanuli, North Sumatra was rocked by a 6.0 magnitude tectonic earthquake on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 02:28 WIB. From the results of the analysis of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake was caused by the Sumatran fault shear fault in the Renum segment.
