The case was revealed when the Banyuwangi Resort Departemental Police's Mobile Resort Team followed up on information about the circulation of counterfeit money at the Kalibaru Petrol Station rest area, precisely in Kalibaru Wetan Village, Kalibaru District, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, on Thursday (09/16/21) then at around 02.00 PM. and involved five suspects with the initial of ASP as Pak So (63), AAP with an alias of Gus Ali (44), AUW with an alias of Gus Mad (57), AS (37), and JS (56).
Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, Pol. Grand Commissioner Gatot Repli Handoko was accompanied by the Banyuwangi Resort Departemental Police Chief, Pol. Grand Commissioner Nasrun Pasaribu and from BI East Java Branch said each suspect had a role in regulating the circulation of counterfeit money and as a dealer. As the financier in producing counterfeit rupiah notes, the suspect was US by employing suspect JS as a printer for counterfeit rupiah notes. Then the Resmob Team managed to secure the perpetrators along with evidence of 71 pieces of counterfeit rupiah denominations of IDR 100,000 worth IDR 7,100,000. On Tuesday (09/28/21) at around 04.00 PM, the Resmob Team managed to secure the suspect AAP and searched his home and was found in 2 backpacks with IDR 1,000,000,000 counterfeit rupiah notes. According to the AAP suspect's statement, the counterfeit money was obtained from the suspect AUW, whose address was at Trowulan, Mojokerto Regency.
Then on Wednesday, (09/29/21) at around 01.00 AM, the Mobile Resort Team managed to secure the suspect AUW and searched his boarding house in Trowulan District, Mojokerto Regency and found 300 fake rupiah notes in IDR 100,000 denominations worth Rp 30,000,000. Furthermore, obtained information from the suspect, AUW got the counterfeit money from Suspect AS. At around 11.00 AM, the Resmob Team managed to secure Suspect AS on Jalan Raya Mojokerto, searched his house in Jemblok Hamlet, Jombang and found one cardboard box of fake IDR 100,000 notes worth IDR 2,700,000,000. According to the information from the suspect AS, the counterfeit money was obtained from suspect JS in Bojonegeoro. Furthermore, the Mobile Resort Team succeeded in securing the suspect JS at his home in the Bojonegoro Regency. Then searched and managed to secure the tools and materials used to print counterfeit rupiah notes.
The five suspects were secured with evidence in the form of 37,371 counterfeit rupiah notes of IDR 100,000 worth IDR 3,737,100,000 -four black laptop units, a computer unit, an Epson printer unit, a 5-litre red ink jerry can, a colour Diamond Ink ink bottle. Red, Black Diamond Ink brand ink bottle, green Diamond Ink brand ink bottle, blue Diamond Ink brand ink bottle, yellow Diamond Ink brand ink bottle, five toolboxes for copying counterfeit money, two paper cutting tools and brought to Mapolresta Banyuwangi for further investigation.
As a result of his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 36 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 26 Paragraph (2) or Article 36 Paragraph (3) in conjunction with Article 26 Paragraph (3) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency. Accordingly, anyone who physically stores in any way he knows is counterfeit Rupiah as referred to in Article 26 paragraph (2) shall be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum fine of IDR 10 billion.
