Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Indonesian Ministry of Health has detected the Omicron XBB subvariant in Indonesia. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, dr. Mohammad Syahril, explained that the new variant of the Omicron virus, the XBB variant, was first detected in a 29-year-old woman who had just returned from Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

The Ministry of Health spokesman continued, this new variant is the first to be a local transmission.

“The patient zero showed symptoms such as cough, runny nose, and fever. Then, the patient did an examination and tested positive on September 26. After undergoing isolation, the patient has been declared cured on October 3," explained dr. Mohammad Syahril.

Although the new XBB variant spreads quickly, the fatality is not as severe than the Omicron variant. However, the country cannot be said to be safe from the COVID-19 pandemic because various mutations of new variants still have the potential to continue to occur.

In the last seven days, it was also reported there were an increase in cases in 24 provinces.

The former President Director of the Sulianti Saroso Infection Center Hospital asked the public to prioritize health protocols such as wearing masks, avoiding crowds, and washing hands, as well as undergo a test to see if they experience signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

He also emphasized the acceleration of Covid-19 vaccination to increase protection against Covid-19.
