Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Denpasar.   The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia held a ground breaking simultaneous construction of maternal and child health service buildings in six vertical hospitals owned by the Ministry of Health, Thursday (11/17).

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the development was carried out to improve the quality of maternal and child health to increase the survivability of pregnant women. Based on the data, the maternal deaths are caused by heavy bleeding and hypertension.

“This condition is actually preventable through proper medical treatment. It is very important to improve health services in maternal and child health facilities," said the Minister of Health.

Budi Gunadi Sadikin thanked the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for providing support of USD 293 million to increase maternal and child health facilities in six national hospitals.

At the event, the Indonesian government was represented by Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati with IsDB represented by President Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser. The groundbreaking ceremony was symbolically held at Prof.I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Hospital in Denpasar, Bali.

This project aims to increase the availability, accessibility and quality of maternal and child health services in six vertical integrated service hospitals in five provinces.

These hospitals include the Dharmais Cancer Hospital and Persahabatan Hospital in DKI Jakarta; Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung; Dr. Sardjito Hospital in D.I Yogyakarta Province; Prof.I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Hospital in Denpasar, Bali Province, and Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital in Makassar, South Sulawesi Province.

This development is in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of reducing the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) to less than 70 per 100 thousand births, ending preventable deaths in newborns and toddlers.
