Gorontalo Police Tighten the Monitor in Border Areas to Anticipate the FMD Outbreak

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Gorontalo.  The entrance at the border of Gorontalo Province with neighboring provinces will be monitored by the Gorontalo Police, as an effort to anticipate the spread of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the livestock. This supervision is carried out by cooperating with local governments, relevant agencies, and other stakeholders.

"Until now there have been no reports of FMD outbreaks in Gorontalo, however, in several districts of Central Sulawesi Province there have been FMD detected in their livestock, therefore we need to strengthen our monitor at border entrances, and coordinate with the Regional Government," explained Gorontalo Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Helmy Santika, Monday (09/26).

Inspector General of Police, Helmy Santika, said that the PMK outbreak was almost the same as Covid-19, including how to handle it.

“By doing disinfection on animals and their products, monitoring the people and their vehicles every time they enter and exit, socializing the community, giving treatment to the livestock, administering vaccines to healthy animals so they are not easily infected, as well as handling the animals that are infected with FMD. All of this will be coordinated with the Regional Government and related agencies so that we could anticipate it," said the Two-Star General.

In addition, the Gorontalo Police Chief ordered the resort polices to immediately set up posts to deal with FMD.

He asked for coordination with the regents and heads of related offices for the availability and readiness of animal health workers, vaccines, and Quarantine Center if an animal that is indicated to be infected with FMD is found so that it can be prevented early.
