A recent report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Association of Children's Hospitals reports that more than 14 million children in the United States (US) have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
Quoted from beritasatu.com, Tuesday (26/7/2022), based on the report, more than 92,000 cases of child COVID-19 were reported until July 21. Meaning, the increase in the number is the increase of weekly cases report for the second times consecutively.
Furthermore, in the last 4 weeks, more than 311,000 child COVID-19 cases have been reported, while for 2022, there are about 6.1 million reported cases.
In addition, the AAP assesses there is an urgent need to collect more age-specific data to assess the severity of disease associated with the new variant and the potential long-term effects.
"It is important to recognize the immediate impact of the pandemic on children's health, but more importantly we need to identify and address the long-term impact on the physical, mental, and social well-being of this generation because of this global pandemic," the AAP said.
