South Kalimantan Police Held Operation Zebra Diamond to Ensure Traffic Laws are Uphold

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Banjarmasin. The South Kalimantan Regional Police held a Troop Rally Ceremony of 2022 Operation Zebra Diamond at the South Kalimantan Police Headquarters Field, Banjarmasin, Monday (03/10/22).

This rally was led by the Director of Traffic of the South Kalimantan Police, Commissioner Maesa Soegriwo, represented by Deputy Director of Traffic, AKBP Dedy Eka Jaya Helmi.

The Operation Zebra is routinely held by the National Police simultaneously throughout Indonesia for 14 days. In 2022, Operation Zebra starts on October 2nd until Sunday October 16th.

AKBP Dedy Eka Jaya Helmi explained that this operation was based on complex problems in the traffic sector. Because traffic safety greatly affects social and economic stability. He adds that this operation aims to disciplined the road users so that it would create safety, security, and smoothness of the traffic. Most of traffic accidents also often happened due to traffic violations.

He said that there are seven violations that they prioritized in the Operation Zebra, which is using phones while driving, underage motorcycle drivers, carrying more than one person for motorcycle, and motorcycle drivers who did not use proper helmet, car drivers who did not wear their seat belts, drunk drivers, drivers who drive against the traffic, and drivers who are speeding.

"It is hoped that this year's operation will reduce the fatality rate of traffic accidents and able to create traffic safety and security throughout the South Kalimantan region," he explained.

Wadir Lalu also said that the actions taken by officers in Operation Zebra Diamond 2022 are to prioritize pre-emptive and preventive acts, and are not allowed to carry out direct law enforcement stationary, and are only allowed to use ETLE facilities both static and mobile.

During this operation, officers were encouraged to carry out intensive education to the community, especially for millennials, which aims to reduce the number of violations and traffic accidents.
