Metro Jaya Regional Police Deploy Thousands of Personnel to Secure Easter Celebration

The Metro Jaya Regional Police deployed 2,469 personnel to carry out security when carrying out Good Friday and Easter services in Jakarta and its surroundings, Friday (4/7/2023). The security also involved the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the local government.

"We are also collaborating with the TNI and other stakeholders, including security from the church," said Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Police Senior Superintendent Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, in his statement in Jakarta, Friday (7/4/2023).

Trunoyudo explained that thousands of personnel were prepared to secure 853 churches in Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Depok. He also detailed the number of personnel and churches that will be secured, namely Central Jakarta, 97 churches with 326 police personnel guarding and 82 personnel under operational control (BKO).

Then North Jakarta had 137 churches with 237 personnel, South Jakarta 12 churches with 89 personnel, West Jakarta 179 churches and 404 personnel, and East Jakarta 170 churches and 360 personnel.

"Furthermore, in South Tangerang, there are 57 churches with 441 personnel guarded, Bekasi City 113 churches with 322 personnel, and Depok 88 churches with 198 personnel," said Trunoyudo.

Trunoyudo explained that for the Tangerang City area, a unit of bomb squad with a total of 10 personnel was on alert, but did not specify how many churches would be searched.

Christians celebrate a series of Easter starting from Palm Sunday (2/4), then Maundy Thursday (6/4), Good Friday (7/4), Holy Saturday (8/4), and finally Easter Sunday (9/4).
