The Chief of Maluku Regional Police Inspector General Lotharia Latif has instructed his team to capture a man known as RM, or Baret, a resident of Negeri Wakal, Leihitu District, Central Maluku Regency, on suspicion of being a provocateur. Baret is believed to have incited violence during a clash between two groups on Monday, February 27, 2023.
The former Chief of East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police also alleged that Baret was responsible for the assault of a police officer in Wakal Village on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
“We ask him to surrender peacefully. Otherwise, we will pursue and arrest him, dead or alive,” he said on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
Baret is known to have two organic firearms, namely an SS1 V2 and a Revolver. He emphasized that he would not tolerate any member of the public who possessed firearms, as they posed a great danger to both the public and law enforcement officers.
Furthermore, he urged the public not to cover up or hide provocateurs and dangerous criminals and encouraged local leaders to take a proactive approach to maintaining peace and security in their respective areas
