The death toll from floods that hit Nigeria keeps increasing. Since June 2022, the death toll has reached more than 600 people.

"More than 603 lives had to be lost as of today, October 16, 2022," said Humanitarian Affairs Minister Sadiya Umar Farouq in a Twitter statement Sunday (16/10/22).

Umar Farouq said the death toll last week reached 500, but this figure has jumped because some state governments were not prepared for floods.

He also revealed that this flood caused damage to more than 82,000 houses and almost 110,000 hectares of agricultural land. In addition, flooding also caused more than 1.3 million people to leave their homes.
