Japan Alerted With Tsunami After Semeru Erupted

Tribratanews.polri.go.idThe Japan Meteorological Agency is monitoring the possibility of a tsunami after Mount Semeru in East Java, Indonesia, erupted on Sunday, (12/4).

“At around 11:18, a major eruption occurred at Mount Semeru. If a tsunami occurs as a result of this eruption, it might happened very soon," the agency said in a statement, quoted by CNNIndonesia.com.

According to a report by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mount Semeru erupted on December 4th, 2022, at 02:46 WIB. The volcano spewed out a column of ash as high as ± 1500 m above the peak that was facing southeast and south.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has evacuated the people around Mount Semeru after the eruption. People got panicked because of the hot cloud that was clearly visible.
