Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta.  A total of 300 fire fighter teams and local residents were mobilized to extinguish land fires on Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, on Saturday (10/22).

As reported by AFP, the fire scorched the land near the climbing camp, Karanga, which used to be a place for climbers before reaching the summit. The camp is located at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level (masl) on the south side of the mountain with the highest peak in Africa.

Officials are not sure how the fire started. However, this is the second incident after the land fires that scorched about 95 square kilometers of land in October 2020.

"Big clouds, strong winds, and smoke blocked us from reaching the fire. So far, we have not been able to confirm how much the fire have spread in the land," explained one of the officers in Kilimanjaro, Nurdin Babu.

In the fire that occurred from last Friday night to Saturday, officers said there were no casualties. Tourists climbing the mountain with the highest peak of 5,895 masl have also been evacuated.

"We will inform you when the situation has developed," he explained as quoted by CNNIndonesia.com.

The plane carrying members of the Tanzanian national park (TANAPA) was unable to evaluate the situation on the ground last Saturday
