During Last Two Years, Polda Riau Able to Handle 32 Cases of Illegal Mining

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The Riau Regional Police (Polda Riau) will continue to be committed in handling illegal mining cases in their region.

The statement was conveyed by the Head of Public Relations (Kabid Humas) of Polda Riau, Commissioner Sunarto during a meeting with the media crew, and accompanied with the Director of Special Crimes (Direskrimsus) of Polda Riau, Commissioner Ferry Irawan and Head of Sub-Directorate IV of Directorate of Special Crimes Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of Polda Riau, AKBP Dhovan on Jalan Ronggowarsito Pekanbaru (16/05/22).

Commissioner Sunarto stated that throughout 2021, Polda Riau had handled 29 cases of illegal mining with 42 suspects. A total of 28 cases have been completed and are being processed at the Prosecutor's Office, while the other one is still under investigation. Throughout January - May, Polda Riau has handled three cases with eight people as suspects.

Narto explained the first discovery of the allegation of illegal mineral and coal mining in Tanah Putih Rokan Hilir District,that in January (11/1/2022), was when his party, namely the Ditreskrimsus, was invited to a coordination meeting by the Mining Inspector ESDM of Riau Province as the supervisor of the IUP permit of the two companies and discussed the C mining activities carried out by PT BTP and PT BBM.

"Based on the results of the meeting, in front of the Riau Mining Inspector Coordinator, the two companies made a written statement stating that they had stopped mining the backfill that was purchased by PT RDP for the wellpad needs of PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan in the Rokan Hilir area," explained the Riau Police Intermediate Officer.

Kabid Humas Polda Riau explained that the Ditreskrimsus Polda Riau, together with a team from the Mining Inspector of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, conducted an investigation to check and inspect the location of the landfill mining business permit area carried out by PT. BTP covering an area of five hectares in the village of Manggala Sakti, Tanah Putih District, Rohil Regency.

“This company has an Exploration IUP but it has not been upgraded to a Production Operation IUP, so it cannot trade. There are no mining activities found in this location and the entire location is empty and there are no mining equipment or employees. The team only found traces of abandoned landfill mining activities," said the former Head of Public Relations of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police.
When checking the location belonging to PT BBM in Tanah Putih District covering an area of 3.69 HA, the team also did not find any mining activity.

"In this second location there are also no activities, empty, there are no mining activity equipment or employees, but we found traces of abandoned landfill mining activities there," explained Commissioner Sunarto.

Based on the results of the field check, they had summoned 8 witnesses from several parties to be questioned.

Kabid Humas Polda Riau confirmed that the case was being handled and is currently being investigated by the Ditreskrimsus Polda Riau.

Direskrimsus Polda Riau, Commissioner Ferry Irawan said that his party would hold an open case after obtaining expert witness testimony.

“Expert witness testimony is very much needed in this case. After examining the expert witnesses, we will hold an open case to determine whether the violation has an indication of criminal or administrative sanctions. We will use this expert testimony as a foothold,” said Commissioner Ferry Irawan.
