INP Uncovers International Human Trafficking Network, Suspect Arrested

Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Human trafficking operation spanning from Indonesia to Turkey and Abu Dhabi was successfully thwarted by the Directorate of General Crime Investigation of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency. The INP arrested a suspect identified only as OP, 40 years old, who allegedly provided shelter and facilitated the victims’ departure.

Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro, the Director of the Directorate of General Crime Investigation, said that the victims were recruited through PT Savanah Agency Indonesia, which promised them jobs in Turkey, Abu Dhabi, Poland, and England.

“They also asked to pay fees ranging from IDR 15 million to IDR 40 million for the departure process,” he said during a press conference on Tuesday (4/4/23).

He added that the victims were then transported to Singapore under the pretext of transit but were not sent to their intended destinations.

Based on the suspects’ confession, 15 victims were transported to Abu Dhabi, while 26 others were transported to Turkey.

The suspect faces charges under Article 4 of the Indonesian Law No. 21 of 2007 on the eradication of human trafficking, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a minimum sentence of 3 years in prison plus a fine ranging from IDR 120 million to IDR 600 million.

The suspect is also charged under Article 81 of Indonesian Law No. 18 of 2017 on the protection of Indonesian migrant workers, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to IDR 15 billion.
