Police Thwart Delivery of 10 Illegal Migrant Workers to Cambodia

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Batam. The Riau Islands Regional Police thwarted the sending of 10 prospective illegal Indonesian migrant workers to Cambodia to be employed as online gambling operators and arrested two suspects on Wednesday (12/3/23).

"The Riau Islands Police succeeded in securing 10 victims of potential illegal migrant workers at Harbourbay Harbor in Batam City and arrested two suspects with the initials DF (21) and S (37)," said the Chief of the Riau Islands Regional Police, Inspector General Drs. Tabana Bangun, M.Sc., quoted from Antaranews.com, Wednesday (15/3/23).

In disclosing the case, Tabana Bangun said that the police received information about the non-procedural sending of prospective migrant workers abroad through Harborbay Port on Sunday (12/3/23).

After being traced, the police managed to find 10 victims with the initial intention of going to Malaysia. They are known to use the mode of tourist travel which will then depart for Cambodia.

In his statement, Tabana Bangun explained that the two suspects with the initials DF and S who were arrested by the police acted as shelters and escorts for illegal migrant workers to Cambodia.

As a result of their actions, the two suspects were subject to Article 81 in conjunction with Article 83 and/or Article 4 in conjunction with Article 10 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons.
