Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Cilegon. The Cilegon Sub-Regional Police uncovered counterfeit money production and arrested two suspects identified as MI, 35-year-old, and HI, 42-year-old.
The uncovering of the case began when the suspect MI was about to cross to Lampung from the Merak Port on January 22, 2023. The police stationed at Dock 3 were suspicious of the movements of the suspect and conducted an inspection.
“The police found the suspect was carrying 6,600 counterfeit currency notes resembling rupiah worth a total of Rp 66 million,” said Police Superintendent Eko Tjahyo Untoro, the Chief of Cilegon Sub-Regional Police.
Through further investigation, the police identified suspect HI who was also involved in the illegal production of counterfeit money. Another suspect named TJ, 43 years old, managed to evade the police and is still at large, making him a wanted person.
At the counterfeit production site in the Leuwiliang area of Bogor Regency, West Java, police confiscated the evidence of two modified printers, a laptop, a set of color ink, a device for checking money, an iron, a screen printing tool, two boxes of paper materials, a ream of paper for printing images resembling foreign currency, 38 sheets of money straps, and one flash drive.
The suspect’s MI and HI are facing a prison sentence of 15 years under Article 36 of Law No. 7 of 2011 concerning Currency.
